It's official.

April 30 is International Jazz Day across the province of Manitoba.

In a press release, Jazz Winnipeg announced the proclamation, recognizing the role the province's “vibrant community of talented and award-winning professional jazz artists have [played] to help shape our province’s dynamic cultural community and represent the province all over the world.”

UNESCO declared the same day as the world's largest celebration of jazz back in 2011, to "highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."

The announcement comes just as Jazz Winnipeg is set to mark their 35th year, with the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival just round the corner.
