The first weekend of May each year cities across the world celebrate urban activist Jane Jacobs by organizing walks in and around different neighbourhoods. Winnipeg's Riel Gentlemen's Choir is leading a walk on Saturday evening. They were live in studio to tell us more! Missed it? Watch here!

You probably saw the Google doodle Wednesday that honored urban-planning activist Jane Jacobs on what would have been her 100th birthday. Her legacy is being celebrated this weekend, too, with a series of Jane's Walks -- citizen-led strolls that serve to connect neighbors and encourage people to explore their cities and tell stories about them.

In Winnipeg, there are 25 walks scheduled so far. They start Friday and go through to Sunday. You can find them at http://janeswalk.org/canada/winnipeg/, or you can register on the site to lead a walk of your own.

Jesse Krause is the Artistic Director of the Riel Gentlemen's Choir. The ensemble  is proud to host their third annual Jane's Walk.

"Come along as we make a stage of this fine city and share with you a taste of its culture through story and song. From the Louis Riel statue behind the Legislative Building, we stop by Dalnavert to raise a toast to the ghosts of gentlemen past. From there, we take it down to the banks of the mighty Assiniboine and thank the West for its life-giving gifts. Next, we cut through Upper Fort Garry Heritage Provincial Park toward Union Station to echo the halls of what was once our city's front door. And finally... how about a cold one? Go on, you deserve it. Time's Change(d) has graciously agreed to open their doors a little early for us. Now that's something to sing about!"
