A teen boy is recovering following a stabbing at Polo Park mall Tuesday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers from the West District were patrolling in the area as part of a retail theft and violent crime initiative and were alerted to the incident and responded quickly.

When they arrived, they found an injured teen boy receiving first aid from a security guard. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Additional officers that were in the area located the suspect running nearby. The suspect led police on a foot chase before they were able to take him into custody.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and an initial investigation determined the 15-year-old victim was confronted and robbed by a group of people. As he managed to escape, he was chased by the group and stabbed before he got to safety, and the suspects fled.

An 18-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery and detained in custody.
