Two men are facing charges after carjacking a woman at knifepoint as she left work at a care facility early Wednesday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that the incident occurred just after midnight as the woman left her job in the South Point Douglas area. Police say that as she left work she was confronted at knifepoint by an individual that had been recently discharged from the care facility. Police allege that the man demanded her keys and fled in her SUV.

Just over an hour later, officers observed the stolen vehicle in the area of Main Street and Broadway. Police say that officers observed two occupants in the vehicle switch seats, and the vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed.

The SUV was pursued through the Downtown area, and at 1:16 a.m., the driver struck a cruiser car in the area of Kennedy Street and Ellice Avenue. The vehicle was stopped, and both occupants were safely taken into custody.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
