The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) arrested two women on Monday on charges of assault on five care home residents.

In June 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service Specialized Investigations Unit began an investigation in response to the report of abuse of residents at a personal care home in the Sturgeon Heights neighbourhood.

A lengthy investigation determined that between August 2021 and January 2022, two health care aids used inappropriate physical actions on separate occasions to gain the compliance of five elderly residents while performing their daily care duties.

None of the victims required medical treatment as a result of these assaults.

On September 12, 2022, two health care aids were arrested. This included a 49-year-old female facing three assault charges, and a 36-year-old female facing two assault charges.

Both were released on Undertakings with conditions as mandated by the Criminal Code.
