Fire officials are investigating following a house fire Tuesday evening that spread to a neighbouring home.

The fire started just before 7 p.m. in a two-storey house in the 300 block of Yale Avenue West.

When crews arrived at the scene, heavy smoke and flames were pouring out of the home, and the fire had spread to a neighbouring two-storey house.

Five people from one of the homes managed to escape before firefighters arrived. All five were transported to hospital in stable condition. There was no one home in the second house.

No other injuries were reported.

Both homes sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
