A 63-year-old man is recovering following a random attack in his residence.

At around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a multi-room residence in the first 100 block of Keewatin Street for the report of a male who had been stabbed.

At the scene they located a seriously injured man. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

The suspect fled the scene. He was found nearby a short time later. Officers recovered a sharp-edged weapon concealed on his person and a small quantity of methamphetamine. Both were seized as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit says the suspect entered the victim’s residence through a window before stabbing him in an unprovoked manner. The victim and suspect were unknown to each other. Police believe the incident to be random.

A 17 year-old male from Winnipeg is facing several charges.

He was released on an Undertaking and an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
