Annual Winter Route Parking Ban has been declared

The City of Winnipeg has announced that The Annual Winter Route Parking Ban will take effect on Saturday, November 26 at 2:00 a.m. until further notice.

The parking ban prohibits parking on designated streets from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Once the ban is in effect, residents are encouraged to check the street for both "Snow Route" and "Winter Route" signs before they park overnight.

Back in October, the city updated The annual snow route parking ban, changing the name to Winter Route Parking Ban and implementing new conditions.

The city is reminding residents that the parking ban applies even if the roads appear to have been cleared and weather conditions have been favourable. This is because snow and ice control activities are ongoing throughout the winter months and crews can do a more efficient job if major routes are clear of vehicles overnight.

Vehicles that are parked during the banned hours may receive a $100 ticket ($75 if paid early) and may be towed away to the towing company's compound.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. Its removal is dictated by weather conditions and will be done by declaration at the City’s discretion later in the season.

Winter routes are a top priority for snow clearing and ice control to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely around the city. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment.
