A true made-in-Manitoba project that will excite art song lovers, history buffs, new music aficionados and true crime fans!

This weekend, in partnership with GroundSwell Winnipeg, Flipside Opera & Artsong Collective present the premiere of Bloody Jack

Inspired by the remorseless and sensational life of early twentieth century Manitoba outlaw Jack Krafchenko, Bloody Jack is a new song cycle by composer Michael Matthews with poetry by Dennis Cooley.

Soprano Dawn Bruch-Wiens and pianist Laura Loewen will present five songs of the cycle in a world premiere performance directed and shot by Aidan Ritchie. Combining historical and archival footage with discussions by Matthews, Cooley and historian Kristen Treusch, Bloody Jack aims to transport the audience back to turn-of-the-century Manitoba and the exploits of the fascinating Krafchenko.

The live film premiere of Bloody Jack takes place with creator panel discussion on Friday, November 19 at Little Brown Jug Brewing Co. (336 William Avenue). Tickets are $20 with limited seating. Streaming available as of Saturday, November 20.
