Strong winds and freshly fallen snow are making for a hazardous commute Friday morning.

Strong northwesterly gusts associated with a cold front developed overnight in the wake of a system that brought snow, patchy freezing rain and even a few rain showers to southern Manitoba on Thursday.

A number of blowing snow and blizzard warnings are in place. Environment Canada has warned that near-zero visibility should be expected in the southern Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba this morning.

For the third time this year, the perimeter highway has been shut down.
