The fight to contain zebra mussels isn't going away.

Three water bodies in Manitoba are confirmed to have zebra mussels: Lake Winnipeg, the Red River, and Cedar Lake. A suspected zebra mussel was also found in Singush Lake in the Duck Mountains.

Manitoba Conservation aquatic invasive species expert Candace Parks says it will be an ongoing issue, and water users will have to stay vigilant and be responsible going forward.

"This is not just a one or two year thing. (These are), going forward, the new steps you need to take every single time."

Watercraft and equipment must be cleaned, drained, and dried after use.

Parks says it's been a good year for watercraft inspection. She says there's been no spread of zebra mussels seen this year, but she "cautions that good news," saying people need to be on the lookout.
