The WSO travels to Westminster United Church this weekend to celebrate its magnificent Casavant pipe organ with guest conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni at the helm. But first he stopped by to talk with Classic 107's Sarah-Jo Kirsch. Missed it? Watch the interview here!

Last season Jean-Marie Zeitouni made his debut as the new music director of the Colorado Music Festival. Westword.com writer Brad Weismann noted that the Montreal native "does not stand on ceremony. He is not fond of being addressed as “maestro”; you may call him JMZ if you like. He’s not stuck up. He digs Spiderman" and he's a total foodie.

No one would blame the man if he DID have a bit of an ego. Zeitouni is recognized as one of the brightest young conductors of his generation. His style is eloquent but fiery. And his repertoir ranges from baroque to contemporary. He studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, most notably under Maestro Raffi Armenian, and graduated in conducting, percussion, and composition.

Besides the Colorado Music Festival, Zeitouni is also the artistic director of I Musici de Montreal, Canada's leading chamber orchestra. Jean-Marie Zeitouni’s résumé also includes stints as music director of the Columbus Symphony, in Ohio, and the Opera as Theatre program at the Banff Centre, as assistant conductor and chorus master of the Opéra de Montréal (and music director of its artist-in-residence program, the Atelier lyrique), as chorus master of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and Opéra de Québec and as music director of Université Laval’s opera workshop and orchestra.

Did we mention Les Violons du Roy?--- An orchestra with which he enjoyed a fruitful collaboration for a dozen years. Zeitouni was alternately conductor in residence, assistant conductor and principal guest conductor.

Greatly appreciated as a lyrical director, he has conducted numerous productions at the Opéra de Montréal, Opéra de Québec, Glimmerglass Opera, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and Opéra national de Lorraine, as well as productions in Banff, Calgary, Edmonton, Cincinnati, St. Louis and more recently at the Opéra Orchestre national de Montpellier and Orchestre national de Lorraine à Nancy.

This weekend, the Montreal native will be taking on the organ with the WSO, but first he was Sarah Jo Kirsch's guest in the Diamond Lane.
