The International Cello Festival of Canada launched today in Winnipeg. British cellist Colin Carr is one of the featured performers of the festival. He was a guest on Classic 107 with host Bill Richardson. Watch the interview here!

Born in Liverpool, Colin is a professor of the cello, currently at the Royal Academy of Music. He  taught at the New England Conservatory in Boston for sixteen years before taking up his current job at the Royal Academy of Music. In addition, he is also affiliated with the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Carl took second place in the international Rostropovich Cello Competition and won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions (1978).

Colin began playing at the age of five, and studied with Maurice Gendron. He also attended the Yehudi Menuhin School.

He now plays on the 'Marquis de Corberon' Stradivari cello, formerly played by Zara Nelsova, and owned by the Royal Academy of Music. His home base is a 17th-century farmhouse outside of Oxford England that he shares with his wife Caroline and three children.

 

 

 

Collin Carr is teaching a master class Friday June 20 9:30 - 11:00 AM at Eckardt-Grammatte Hall at the University of Winnipeg.

He will be performing that night at Westminster United Church at 7:00 in a program called Inspired by Bach: The Complete Suites for Solo Cello with festival artistic director Paul Marleyn, Denise Djokic, Matt Haimovitz, Miklos Perenyi and Alexander Rudin. Colin performs again Saturday night at the Beethoven, the Revolutionary: The Complete Sonatas for Cello & Piano at Crscent Fort Rouge Churdh (7:00 PM) and then at the Gala Festival Finale, Sunday night at 7:30 at Pantages Playhouse Theatre.
