Montreal-based saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen is in Winnipeg to offer her musical perspective to Suite 150 - A Canadian Big Band Portrait. She joined Simeon Rusnak in the Diamond Lane! Missed it? Watch the video here!

In celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation, the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra commissioned 11 big band jazz composers from across Canada to showcase the country's diversity. Christine Jensen, one of the the composers, took home the Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year with her first band album, Treelines in 2011, along with Quebec’s Opus Award for jazz recording of the year. In October 2013, she released her second recording as a big band leader, soloist and composer on Justin-Time Records, entitled Habitat. It received a rare 5 star review in Downbeat Magazine. “[It] is simply superb, a lyrical, powerful triumph with peak moments that are the stuff of goosebumps and even a bit of teariness.”-Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen.

The concert, which is a world premiere of the work, takes place Sunday, November 19th at the Winnipeg Art Gallery's ’s Muriel Richardson Auditorium. Two shows - 2 pm and 7:30 pm!
