If you’ve been touring the world through Foklorama these last couple of weeks, these are your last couple of nights before it all wraps up for another year Saturday night (Aug 16). The largest and longest running multicultural festival of its kind in the world---Folklorama is celebrating its 45th year. This year the festival has featured a total of 43 pavilions celebrating the incredible cultural diversity that exists in Manitoba.

This weekend also marks the very first Rosamunde Festival. Presented by the Rosamunde Summer Music Academy, the three day festival starts Friday night (Aug 15) and runs through until Sunday afternoon (Aug 17). Some of the featured artists include award winning musicians like Yohonaton Berick, Karl Stobbe, associate concert master of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Canadian cellist Rachel Mercer. All the concerts take place at Canadian Mennonite University at 500 Shaftsbury Blvd tickets are $20 at the door.

Friday night’s concert starts at 7:00 Pm and will feature performances of Corelli’s Concerto grosso, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto and much more. For more information on concert times, programing and the artists, go to classic 107.com and click on the Arts & Entertainment Calendar

Back in the city now and over to Assiniboine Park. Their annual Movies in the Park continues this weekend with Despicable Me 2 at 7:00 PM.

 

 

 And Skyfall at 9:15.

 

That’s Saturday night (Aug 16) on the Lyric lawn at Assiniboine Park and it is absolutely free. BYOB and BYOP – Bring your own blanket and bring your own popcorn!

This weekend, Assiniboine Park also continues to be your number one destination for smooth jazz.

Sunday afternoon (Aug 17) at 3:00 PM at the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden it’s Winnipeg Jazz artist Larry Roy with his writing and musical partner Erin Propp. Showtime is 3:00 to 4:00 PM and it is free.

 

 

Later on in the evening it’s the very last Sunday Night Smooth Jazz at the Lyric concert. The season wraps up with Jazz keyboardist Jeff Lorber.. One of the most sought after producers and performers in Jazz, Jeff is famous for launching the career of Kenny G as well as his productions and collaborations with such greats as Dave Koz, Janet Jackson, Lalah Hathaway and Miles Davis. Showtime is 7:00 PM at the Lyric in Assiniboine Park. It’s free and the host of the evening’s activities is your very own Jazz After 9 host Neil Coligan.

 

 

And don’t forget to tune in tomorrow night on Jazz After 9:00 PM when Neil will have series atistic director Walle Larsson to tell us more about Jeff Lorber.
