A New Year's Day fire has left six families without a place to live.

The fire broke out around 7:40 a.m. on Jan. 1 on Sinclair Street in Moose Lake, Manitoba.

Officers attended the scene and ensured nearby residences had been evacuated. Before the fire could be extinguished, five trailers were destroyed and a sixth damaged.

No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but arson is suspected.

Meanwhile, one affected family has taken to social media for help. 

"As most are likely aware, this morning, a tragic multiple house fire occurred in Moose Lake, MB. Among the homes, my aunt & uncle lost their home & all of their belongings," said Desarae Lambert in a post on Facebook. 

"My in-laws lost their home this morning. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they work through this difficult time," said Michelle Gamblin.

They are now looking for donations of items, including clothing, bedding, housewares and personal hygiene items. 

Drop-off locations have been set up in Moose Lake and The Pas.  

Monetary donations are also welcome and can be sent by e-transfer to desaraeadele@hotmail.com.
