Three of Winnipeg's most popular parks will be seeing yellow and blue vests along its walkways.

Assiniboine Park, St. Vital Park, and Kildonan Park are seeing the resumption of a program the city put in place last spring. The city says 129 Community Services Department employees are being redeployed as Community Service Ambassadors.

"They will provide information when they encounter groups larger than the provincial size restrictions, and remind residents of the health orders currently in place," the City of Winnipeg says in a statement.

If people continue to not follow the orders, by-law officers will be called to enforce and ticket them.

The city created the ambassador program in 2020 in an effort to both redeploy otherwise unemployed city employees and to inform locals about the Public Health Orders.

Meanwhile, parks on school grounds are being cared for by their schools, including the Winnipeg School Division who is limiting playground use to students only after seeing people congregate at their parks.

A local mother, Carol Cassel, noticed the increase in demand for outdoor activities and is mapping over four hundred local parks into one Google map.
