An open-air concert being conducted by Iván Fischer took an unexpected turn in Budapest on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, an open-air concert took place for people with a valid COVID certificate. The audience arrived expecting an evening of music but what they did not know was that the musical affair would make such a large statement. Already having a history of musical shakeups, the conductor did something unexpected in the middle of a piece.

Hungarian Iván Fischer is one of Budapest Festival Orchestra’s creators and conductors. While on stage conducting, he removed his white coat, revealing a hole in the arm of his shirt. Next, a man walked up to him.

The doctor's gloved hands grabbed hold of Fisher's arm, giving the conductor his third COVID-19 vaccine mid-performance.

Hungarian news agency 24.HU shared a video of the moment.

"The world-renowned conductor aims to encourage people to get vaccinated; he wants to set an example and to draw the public’s attention to the importance of fighting the epidemic," Budapest Festival Orchestra says in a statement.

Along with the shot, the musicians joined in the statement, publically taking a COVID-19 test.
