Multiple street closures in downtown Winnipeg will make Thursday's commute home slower than normal.

The Winnipeg Whiteout Party set up is happening in downtown Winnipeg, which has blocked off a number of streets. In addition, construction-related lane closures are still in place in other areas.

If you are driving in downtown Winnipeg, you may want to avoid the following closures:

  • NB Smith Street - closed between St Mary Avenue and Portage Avenue
    • You must turn left at St Mary unless you are going to the Millennium Library parkade
  • SB Donald Street - closed between Portage Avenue and St Mary Avenue
    • You must turn either left or right at Portage Avenue. Closer to puck drop, crosswalks will be full of people
  • EB and WB Graham Avenue - closed between Garry Street and Hargrave Street
    • Closed for a combination of construction and Whiteout party. Affects buses, which have been rerouted as a result
  • NB Hargrave Street - closed from St Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue
    • Closed for construction. Access given to City Place parking lot #4
  • SB Carlton Street - curb lanes closed between Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue, east curb lane closed until St Mary
    • Closed for vehicle parking and for construction. A number of large divots have appeared in the roadway so drive carefully
  • NB Notre Dame Avenue - west curb lane closed between Portage Avenue and Arthur Street
    • Hydro work. Will remain closed until the end of May
  • NB Smith Street - west curb lane closed between Portage Avenue and the public lane between Portage and Ellice Avenue
    • closed for building construction, typically a parking lane

And if you are heading to the game or street party tonight, True North will be collecting donations of food for Winnipeg Harvest. Harvest recently announced they were experiencing an extreme shortage in non-perishable food items.
