Environment Canada has added the rest of southern Manitoba to the areas affected by the extreme cold warning.

The Central, Pembina Valley and Eastman regions of the province are now expected to reach chilling temperatures with elevated health risks.

Earlier today, Westman was issued an extreme cold warning and Churchill is expected to receive a blizzard tonight.

Wind chills coming in from the northwest pose a threat to the public for frostbite and hyperthermia.

A period of extreme cold values will continue through the week during the overnight and early morning periods.

Environment Canada says that seasonal temperatures will return in time for Christmas this weekend.
