The walls of Fort Gibraltar are slated to come down following a serious incident this spring that left several children injured.

On May 31, shortly before 10 a.m., seventeen students and one teacher from St. John's-Ravenscourt fell several metres from a structure inside Whittier Park.

Three children were transported to hospital in unstable condition. The others arrived in stable condition. All have since been released from hospital.

The premises of Fort Gibraltar have remained closed to the public since the incident.

Today, the Festival du Voyageur announced that the walls of the fort are planned to be brought down ahead of the upcoming edition of the Festival taking place from February 16-25, 2024.

The Festival du Voyageur says they remain committed to working with interested parties, including the City of Winnipeg, while the incident continues to be reviewed.
