A Winnipeg firefighter suffered a minor injury Tuesday evening battling a fire in the West End.

The blaze broke out at 10:49 p.m. in a two-and-a-half-storey home in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street.

Flames and smoke could be seen pouring out of the home when crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter. Crews declared the fire under control at 12:41 a.m

Eight people from neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated. Occupants of the damaged home self-evacuated before crews arrived.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury. Paramedics treated the firefighter on scene, and no transportation to hospital was required.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
