A scare this morning at the Habitat for Humanity build site in St. James.

President Jimmy Carter had to be taken to hospital after becoming dehydrated in the hot sun. He had been working on one of the homes.

Carter was unable to attend a press conference scheduled this morning. Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, provided an update on Carter's condition for reporters.

"President Carter told us he's okay and is being taken off site for observation. He's telling everyone to stay hydrated and to keep building."

150 homes are being built for Canada's 150th birthday through Habitat for Humanity and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. 20 are being built this week in St. James, with 25 total planned for Manitoba.
