With summer slowly creeping closure, Lifesaving Society Manitoba is reminding people to stay safe around water and is giving them an opportunity for free lifeguarding lessons and water safety training.

Lifesaving Society Manitoba (LSM) is looking for people interested in water safety to join the Northern Water Smart Instructors team for the coming up summer season.

Instructor and lifeguard training is being offered to those passionate about drowning prevention and looking for summer employment, with the possibility of future career opportunities with the LSM.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • be 18 years or older;
  • have a valid Class 5 (full) Manitoba driver's license or equivalent;
  • have the ability to swim 400 metres continuously in 11 minutes or less;
  • have the willingness to travel to northern and remote locations, including First Nations, in Manitoba;
  • have a clear criminal record with vulnerable sector and child abuse registry checks.

Candidates accepted into this program will sign on to work for Lifesaving Society Manitoba from the commencement of training in April for up to 19 weeks.

In addition to the no-cost lessons, candidates will receive minimum wage during training and will receive an increase upon completion and a performance review.
