Extremely cold weather conditions continue to grip the province as temperatures hover around the minus 30 mark, feeling more like minus 40 to minus 45 with windchill.

According to Environment Canada, an arctic airmass is expected to remain over the area for the next few days resulting in frigid overnight temperatures and slight moderation during the afternoon hours.

Daytime highs near minus 20 are expected in Winnipeg through the next three days before temperatures return to a more seasonal mark near minus 10 on Friday.

Environment Canada reminds residents that risks associated with extreme cold are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
