Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for most of southern Manitoba ahead of an approaching heatwave.

The national forecaster says that a ridge of high pressure will bring with it daytime high temperatures in the low to mid-30s and overnight low temperatures in the mid to high teens.

Although the hottest air is expected to move off Saturday, temperatures still remain above normal into early next week.

Environment Canada says that the warnings may be expanded as the hot air moves eastward.

Manitobans are reminded that extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
