Several Manitoba highways remain extremely icy Thursday morning, though most have now reopened.

Highway 75 was closed from Morris to Winnipeg from 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to 8:30 Thursday morning.

Poor driving conditions remain on many highways throughout southern Manitoba after snow, rain, high winds, and falling temperatures combined to leave many roadways covered in sheets of ice.

You can find current highway conditions here.

Many callers to the radio station Thursday morning reported especially poor conditions on both the South and North Perimeter Highway. There were several collisions and cars in ditches along both stretches.

Several roads inside the city are also extremely slippery. That includes CentrePort Canada Way. Several large trucks were stuck on the highway as they could not gain traction going uphill on Wednesday evening.

The City of Winnipeg says in a tweet that crews are salting and sanding streets to help with traction as needed. Workers are also clearing sidewalks.

Temperatures will drop to -6 this afternoon and high winds are expected once again. High winds will often have a "polishing effect" on icy roadways, causing them to become even more slippery. Motorists are reminded to drive according to conditions and use caution.
