The Ontario Provincial Police has confirmed Highway 17 (Trans-Canada) between the Ontario/Manitoba border and Ignace is closed due to poor driving conditions.

As of 3 p.m., Highway 1 is closed from Falcon Lake to the Ontario border in Manitoba. There’s no timeline on when the highway is expected to reopen.

The region is expected to get hit with 10 to 15 cm of snow Tuesday into Tuesday evening bringing with it heavy winds gusts up to 50 km/h causing limited visibility.

Road conditions are also deteriorating throughout southern Manitoba as the wind picks up.

Most highways are reported as being snow covered with drifts, swirling and blowing snow, and snow-packed sections.

The Winter Storm Warning continues for our region.

Southeastern Manitoba can expect a northwest wind gusting to 70 km/hr with a windchill of minus 36 and a risk of frostbite.

Hazardous winter conditions are expected to continue until tomorrow morning.
