This Saturday, March 4th, at 8:00pm the West End Cultural Centre will be welcoming to the stage, Juno nominated singer-songwriter vocalist Barbra Lica.

Known for her fun, thoughtful lyrics and beautiful, unique voice, Barbra Lica has established herself as a fixture on the North American jazz circuit. She has performed in New York at the iconic Birdland, and Toronto’s’ Koerner Hall. Lica has headlined at Jazz festivals throughout the world such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Vancouver Jazz Festival and Tokyo International Jazz Festival.

This Winnipeg stop is the last performance of Lica’s tour in Manitoba. She will be performing in Minnedosa on March 1st, Neepawa on March 2nd and Pinawa on March 3rd. This tour was sponsored by the Manitoba Arts Network which creates tours for Canadian musicians to tour the province. As Lica explains,”I really love playing in more rural places and intimate concerts…I just love that safety and intimacy of these spaces where everybody feels like family in the living room.”

On this tour Lica will be promoting her latest seven song EP called “Imposter Syndrome.” They will be performing all seven songs on the EP as well as music from some of her earlier albums. There will also be new material that Lica will be performing as well. “ I like to mix in some brand new songs… this will be the longest I’ve been away from my son since going back on tour…I’ve been writing a few songs for him and I will be featuring one of those at these concerts for the first time,” explains Lica.

When it comes to her own song writing, Lica takes inspiration from storytelling. As she explains, “It really was the story telling that I loved and got me into music, and then I started to discover other genres that had a similar effect.” Lica’s songs have a jazz footing but also take inspiration from acoustic folk, pop, and country. This mixture of diverse musical genres, combined with Lica’s gorgeous contra-alto voice make for songs that are really unique, accessible and great to listen to.

Lica will be performing with a band that comes from all over the country. She will be joined by former Winnipegger Joel Visentin on Keyboards, Mark Godfrey from London, Ontario on bass, Tom Fleming from Toronto playing guitar and from Nova Scotia, Will Fisher on drums.

Opening for Barbra Lica will be Winnipeg Jazz icons, Larry Roy on Guitar and his long-time collaborator, singer Erin Propp.
