Airport employees stayed grounded as they dug up all kinds of fresh produce for Harvest Manitoba.

Since 1997, the Winnipeg Airports Authority has been harvesting a patch of groundand donating the goods to what is now called Harvest Manitoba.

“It’s truly a team effort and something all of our staff members look forward to each year. Our quarter of a century of success in the Harvest Garden would not be possible without their help and dedication," CEO Barry Rempel says.

In its 25th year, they are sharing they have donated a ground-breaking culmination of produce: 67,181 pounds, enough to help almost one hundred thousand families.

Harvest Manitoba CEO Vince Barletta says the WAA "has been a critical source of fresh vegetables" for Harvest Hampers.

"We are so thankful to have WAA and their employees in our community of Harvest Stars. Their support helps us feed 80,000 Manitobans who rely on us for emergency food support every month.”

This year's harvest is producing more than 2,400 pounds of potatoes, beets, carrots and onions. While far travel is the WWA's specialty, the goods are staying in Manitoba, reaching 325 different communities.
