April showers bring May flowers, so the saying goes. But what about March jazz?

The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra celebrates the new season this weekend with their show titled Up Jumped Spring featuring vocalist Helen White.

“I love singing with the big band,” says White. “You can’t beat standing there and having all the horns blaring, and the excitement of it all.”

Spring is in the musical air with tunes like Sammy Nestico’s A Warm Breeze, Count Basie’s April in Paris, Richard Rodgers’ Spring Is Here, and Freddie Hubbard's titular track.

White performs Nancy Wilson’s famous arrangement of What a Little Moonlight Can Do, the standard Fly Me to the Moon, and more!

Taking place on the first day of spring, Sunday, March 20 at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain, Up Jumped Spring begins at 2 p.m.
