Violinist Gregory Lewis opens the WMCW's season Sunday afternoon (Oct 15)This Sunday, October 15th, young violinist Gregory Lewis will get their concert season going. Praised for his “brilliant technique and control” (Chronicle Journal) and “wonderful musical personality” (Winnipeg Free Press), Gregory Lewis has established himself as one of Canada’s most prominent rising violinists. Appearing with the Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and Kitchener-Waterloo symphony orchestras, Lewis has also had numerous engagements with student and chamber orchestras, including Consortium Aurora Borealis and the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra. As a recitalist, he has been featured from coast to coast in Canada, with highlights including the Scotia Festival of Music (Halifax), Virtuosi Recital Series (Winnipeg), the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg, Ottawa Chamberfest, and most recently a recital tour of British Columbia. He has also appeared in recital in New York, Indiana, and Colorado, most notably in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall twice in 2015.

November 12: Maeve Palmer – Soprano, 40th Eckhardt-Gramatté National Competition Finalist

December 28: The five winners of the 2017 scholarship auditions, which took place at the Eva Clare Hall, Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, U of M, on Saturday, May 13, 2017, will perform and receive their scholarships totalling $10,000 musical.

$2,000 Madeleine Gauvin Scholarship – Paul Williamson – piano
$1,500 Holtby Scholarship – Yufei Liu – violin
$1,000 Berythe Birse Scholarship – Nolan Powell – Guitar
