Music N’ Mavens, Winnipeg’s premiere daytime music and lecture series, has returned to the Rady JCC.

“It's amazing,” says producer Karla Berbrayer. “To have human beings — real bodies — sitting in the theatre, there’s nothing better than that.”

After back-to-back virtual seasons, Berbrayer has heard nothing but positive feedback and appreciation from audience and performer alike. “It’s just a world of difference (seeing live performance)… it’s just so much fun.”

It isn’t quite a full return-to-normal yet, however.

Typically, Music N’ Mavens alternates between live music and presentation. This year, after the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, a decision was made to move the speakers online to YouTube.

“I took all the speakers… and put them upfront and did them virtually,” explains Berbrayer, dividing the series in two. “We are keeping up the virtual component of the speakers until the end of the Music N' Mavens series, which is the end of March.”

For Berbrayer, a highlight this year is the variety of performers. “There are so many wonderful, local Manitoba musicians,” she says.

From classical string trios to brass band; Indigenous folk-pop to klezmer ensembles, Music N Mavens is sure to have a little bit of something for everyone.
