The historic home of a Canadian writer from Saint Boniface is getting a new sidewalk, but it needs a bit of a top off financially.

Maison Gabrielle Roy is raising money to finish repairing a wooden walkway. A GoFundMe page currently sits at $690 dollars raised of a $1,000 goal.

Although the sidewalk isn't part of the home's historical aspect, executive director Baptiste Marcere says it was rotten and slippery in the fall and winter, so it's time to change it, for looks and for safety.

Marcere says the full cost of the sidewalk is somewhere around $2,500. He says there's a lot of restoration to do at the house, so they started this fundraising campaign.

Marcere says they're focusing on the columns in the house right now, too, which he says is a lot of money.

He's encouraging people to contact Maison Gabrielle Roy if they want to volunteer to help install the new sidewalk. He expects it to be put in in June or July.

The home was originally restored in 2003 to transform it into how it looked in 1915.
