The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating the death of a Winnipeg man following an officer-involved shooting. 

The incident occurred Tuesday morning in a home in the 200 block of Magnus Avenue. 

The Winnipeg Police Service says they were executing an order under the Mental Health Act when the incident happened. 

Police allege that when they arrived at the home, the man was armed with a weapon. The WPS tactical support team was requested and entered the residence where a use-of-force encounter occurred. Officers responded by discharging their service firearms, striking the male. 

He was provided first aid at the scene and transported to hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced deceased. 

 A team of IIU investigators was immediately deployed.
