Manitobans are offered the opportunity to be viewed as a local helping hand as applications are being accepted for campground hosts for summer 2023.

Manitoba Parks has extended the application deadline for November 15, 2022, for volunteer campground host positions in several Manitoban campgrounds.

The locations for campground hosts include well-known provincial parks such as Birds Hill, Grand Beach, Hecla, White Shell, Nopiming, St. Malo, and Spruce Woods.

"So our volunteer hosts have a pretty good gig through the summer," says Sloan Cathcart, head of interpretation for Manitoba Parks. "They are primarily tasked with roving campgrounds and being kind of a welcome greeter for the park. As campers come in, they can chat with them, welcome them, answer any questions, help point them to different features in the park, and act as greeters for the campground. Another big role that the hosts' play is assisting the park interpreters with some other programming, so an extra set of hands at the campfire talk or an amphitheatre program maybe help out at the visitor center at the park has one."

Typically, there is only one set of hosts in each campground, however, for the larger campgrounds, two sets will be needed. The hosts will receive a free campsite for the season to allow them to easily carry out their duties.

For those interested in applying for the campground host position, Manitoba Parks has the application on its website. The application deadline is November 15 and the chosen hosts will be contacted between November and December.
