Manitoba RCMP have located and arrested the last of three inmates who escaped from The Pas Correctional Centre earlier this week.

RCMP say they received a report of three missing inmates at around 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Police flooded the area, and at 8:05 p.m., one of the escaped inmates was located and safely taken into custody.

19-year-old Xander Tardiff and 21-year-old Kelly Castel remained at large. Tardiff was located early Tuesday afternoon, and Castel remained on the run until he was found earlier this morning.

RCMP say Emergency Response Team officers, who were brought in to assist with the search for the escaped inmates, were patrolling an area in The Pas when they located Kelly Castel near Halcrow Avenue. He fled on foot, and additional police units, including Police Dog Servies, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Unit (drone) and The Pas detachment members immediately responded to the area.

A police dog eventually led officers to Castel, who was, hiding a short distance away. He was arrested safely and is now in custody.

The Manitoba RCMP recognizes this was a difficult time for the affected communities and thanks the residents for their understanding and assistance.
