The Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg McLellan Competition for Solo Performance finals is coming up quickly.  

Three young artists sharing their superb talents alongside the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, vie for $20,000 in prize monies awarded.  

 

 

Soprano Christina Thanisch-Smith has been a regular beneficiary of the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg as she has established her voice as a young artist in the Canadian singing scene.  

Currently a first year McPhee Artist with the Calgary Opera, Thanisch-Smith is an alumna of McGill University (G.D.P., M.Mus.), the University of Manitoba (B.Mus.), Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Franz-Schubert-Institut, Stratford Summer Music Festival Academy, Opera NUOVA, and Wendy Nielsen’s Opera Workshop. 

Having prepared a program that spans centuries, Thanisch-Smith performs five selections in five languages featuring a variety of musical styles alongside the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of maestro Julian Pellicano.  

The WMC McLellan Competition finals take place Thursday, April 18 at Jubilee Place (MBCI), beginning at 7:30 p.m.
