Before the curtain rose on opening night of Verdi's Don Carlos, the prestigious Metropolitan Opera House in New York held a moment of silence in solidarity with Ukraine.
The silence was broken when the Met Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, performed a stirring rendition of the national anthem of Ukraine: "Shche ne Vmerla Ukrainy i slava, i volia" (Glory and Freedom of Ukraine has not yet Perished)
