This week's MWM invites you into the construction of the only instrument ever tasked with replacing an entire orchestra.

The piano as we know it now is a marvel of modern technology. Ever wonder about its ancestors? In 2012, the Leeds International Piano Competition thought it would be a good idea to give its audience a run-down of how the first mono-dynamic plucked-string keyboard instruments turned into the brilliant and versatile instruments we know today. Check it out here:

OR you could watch Liberace's two-part History of the Piano because: Liberace.

As for the Piano we know now: globally-respected manufacturer Bechstein and its CEO (who happens to be a master piano technician) Karl Schulze were kind enough to guide us through the factory and all of the incredibly intricate work that goes into every instrument Bechstein sends out. An indepth 'How Its Made' in twelve bite-size pieces, if you will. It's fascinating (and available in multiple languages). Also: Karl and all the dudes at the factory seem super cool. Perhaps making things that look and sound so beautiful is good for the soul.
