Most residents of Pimicikamak Cree Nation are returning home after evacuating due to a nearby wildfire.

Thousands of people were forced to evacuate the community on Wednesday after wind conditions caused a wildfire in the area to grow to almost 19 square kilometres.

Rain and a shift in wind direction have since improved conditions, allowing most residents to return home. Those suffering from respiratory conditions are being told to stay away for a little longer, as it is not yet safe for their return.
