This Sunday, April 7th at 7:00pm The Fort Garry Hotel in collaboration with Jazz Winnipeg will be presenting the outstanding jazz drummer Fabio Ragnelli.

Originally from Toronto, Ragnelli is a Juno Award winning drummer who has performed at the Montreal, and Monterey Jazz Festivals. He has also performed at some very prestigious venues including Koerner Hall, The Blue Note Jazz club in New York, The National Arts Centre, and Place des Arts.

He holds a Bachelor of Music from Humber College and a Masters in music from Brandon University and is currently an Assistant Professor of Jazz drums at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music.

Joining Ragnelli on the band stand will be some of his fellow colleagues at the University of Manitoba. The lineup will consist of Jon Gordon on saxophone, Will Bonness on piano, Devon Gillingham on bass, and of course Ragnelli on drums.

The show will consist of a mixture of original material and standards, but standard’s that might be considered deep cuts. As Ragnelli explains, “There will be some originals. I’m working on writing more music … and I think a lot of it is just the chance to get out there and play the music. And then in terms of standards … maybe lesser known tunes. I am playing a Monk tune called Introspection that I think of you are a Monk fan you might know it… but even a lot of jazz fans might go ‘what the heck is this tune…I’ve never heard it’…and some other things along those lines.“

The show on Sunday at 7pm at the Fort Garry Hotel is sure to be something really special. Ragnelli is all about listening and communicating with the musicians he is playing with, As he states plainly, “For me it’s really about the whole…that’s very important…just listening to a group. It’s really about the music first.”

Music first… with four of the best jazz musicians in the Province. That’s what you can hear this Sunday night with Fabio Ragnelli. Don’t miss out!
