National Arts Centre Orchestra Maestro Alexander Shelley in studio with Diamond Lane host Simeon Rusnak. In celebration of the sesquicentennial anniversary of Confederation, The NAC Orchestra has embarked on a nation-wide Canada 150 Tour. In his third season at the helm of the orchestra, director Alexander Shelley will be Simeon Rusnak’s guest in the Diamond Lane at 4 pm on Thursday ahead of their performance later that evening at the Centennial Concert Hall.

Alexander Shelley, who succeeded Pinchas Zukerman as Music Director of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra in September 2015, also serves as Principal Associate Conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and is in demand throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia as a guest conductor.

Pianist Jan Lisiecki begins the program with a performance of Schumann’s Concerto in A minor, followed by a classical favourite, Dvorak’s “New World Symphony” - Number 9. The evening culminates with John Estacio’s new work I Lost My Talk, inspired by Mi’kmaw Elder and poet Rita Joe, C.M. This lush musical score is performed with film and live narration, a truly “powerful, overwhelming creation” (Christophe Husse, Le Devoir).
