Emergency crews are responding to a serious collision on Winnipeg's east side Friday afternoon.

A collision at East Mint Place occurred at 10:20 a.m. and Lagimoidere Boulevard had been closed in both directions in the area.

All southbound lanes have since been reopened, but as of 3:45 p.m. all northbound lanes remain closed at Abinojii Mikanah for a WPS investigation.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

Several fire trucks and ambulances responded. Just before noon, STARS air ambulance posted on its social media dispatch channel that one of its helicopters also responded to the scene. One adult female was brought to hospital in critical condition.

The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed that one adult male was transported to hospital.

A minivan and two semis appeared to be involved. One witness said they believed a semi rear-ended the minivan. The collision occurred just before the northbound lanes of Lagimodiere merge into one lane for a construction zone.
