Our November Jazz Recording of the Month is the 4 CD compilation "Love Walked In, Sixty Years Of Original Jazz Classics" from Universal Music Canada.

It may seem an odd choice to pay tribute to a record label that is essentially made up of material already issued on other labels, but Original Jazz Classics can lay claim to a distinguished pedigree. OJC was started in 1983 as an offshoot of Fantasy Records.  Under the OJC banner original editions of jazz albums were reissued on CD and LP.  The reference to six decades stems from the fact that some of the recordings were originally released in the 1950s and 60s on long established labels such as Riverside, Prestige, Contemporary and other labels that were later absorbed by Fantasy. The idea was to present memorable jazz albums with original covers and notes, which had been unavailable for years. This meant some classics were unearthed from the vaults, including some of the most important jazz ever recorded such as Miles Davis' quintet sessions for Prestige (which included the his classic version of "My Funny Valentine")

Below is a video of Miles Davis in 1964 performing "My Funny Valentine" with a later version of his famous quintets in Italy.
