A pair of Winnipeg men believed to be high on methamphetamine have been arrested after separate incidents on Wednesday.

Police say around 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 22, a man approached a cruiser car in the 300 block of Redwood Ave. and allegedly threw a propane tank through the back window.

Neither of the officers were injured.

30-year-old Richard Lee Friesen was arrested and charged with Assault Peace Officer and Mischief Under $5,000.

About two hours later in the 400 block of Dufferin Ave., police responded to reports that a man was assaulted by someone with a screwdriver. Responding officers followed the suspect to a residence in the 200 block of Stella Ave. where he picked up a shovel and allegedly threw it at one of the officers. Police attempted to use their tasers twice but were unsuccessful and the man fled on foot.

Police caught up to him a short distance away and say he threatened one of the officers with the screwdriver. Officers then deployed a taser for a third time and were successful in subduing the suspect.

26-year-old Brett Mikal Keeper was arrested and is facing a long list of charges, including Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon.

Both men were detained in custody.
