A homicide investigation has taken place regarding a report of what appears to be human remains, and police are asking for any video surveillance of the area.

Update:

Today, the Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the discovery of partial female remains along the riverbank in the South Point Douglas neighbourhood.

Investigators have yet to identify the female and have described her as follows:

  • Female believed to be over 20 years old of unknown ethnicity
  • Between 5’0” and 5’5” in height with a slight build
  • Short, dark-coloured hair, both ears doubled-pierced
  • Cesarean "C" section scar
  • No upper or lower teeth (believed to be previously missing)

Previously Stated:

On April 15, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Curtis Street and Higgins Avenue for a report that possible human remains had been found in the area.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the remains of a deceased individual had been located. Officers have not been able to confirm any details of the deceased person. A post-mortem examination is pending.

No more information is known and the Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate.
