The Portage la Prairie RCMP discovered the arrested suspects were also involved in an assault that occurred earlier that same day.

As stated by the RCMP, On January 9, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP received several firearm-related reports involving a residence on 3rd Street Northeast in Portage.

Police determined shots were fired at the residence from a vehicle, striking the building. Several people were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Nobody was physically injured.

The investigation led police to a residence on the same street, where officers arrested two males and one female without incident. It was determined that the suspects had also been involved in an assault earlier that day on a female.

A search warrant was executed on the suspects’ residence and the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. Several firearms and airsoft weapons were located.

Sean Baker, 35, from Portage, is charged with Assault causing Bodily Harm, Assault while Choking, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Firearm when Knowing Possession Unauthorized, Careless Use of a Firearm, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. Baker was remanded into custody.

Justin Kilcollins, 31, from Portage, is charged with Assault, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. Kilcollins was remanded in custody.

A 23-year-old female from Portage faces charges of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, and Mischief Under $5000.00. This suspect was released to appear in court on March 14th, 2023.

The victim of the assault sustained minor physical injuries.
