While there are no watches or warnings for severe thunderstorms this afternoon in southern Manitoba, the ingredients are all there.

"For southern Manitoba this afternoon it's looking like an active convective weather day," says James Colangelo, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. "There's a low-pressure system making its way currently through southern Saskatchewan."

Over the weekend, Alberta had tornado warnings and one actually touched down near Coronation about 150 kilometres east of Red Deer, on Sunday according to EC.

"As the system makes its way eastward over this afternoon into Manitoba, the ingredients will be there for strong supercells to form."

As of 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, there are no weather warnings.

"With these systems, you could see some very large hail, very strong winds, up to 100 km/h, and a potential for tornadoes today in the Red River Valley."

Watches and Warnings will be sent out if the systems do turn into severe thunderstorms.
