The Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Women's Committee donated $30,000 to the RWB this year and is hoping that number will climb in the future.

The majority of that money came out of the Women's Committee's store, Things Antiques & Gifts, which turned 50 this year.

The store accepts donations of a number of items such as furniture, china, teacups, silverware, jewelry, and small trinkets. Once items are sold, 60 per cent of the profit goes to the donor and 40 per cent goes to the ballet's women's committee. The committee then splits that 40 per cent and uses some of it to keep the store running and then donates the rest to the ballet, according to women's committee President Linda Cherenkoff.

The store is also run by 100 per cent volunteers, and Cherenkoff says they have never had paid employees.

Classic 107 had the chance to sit down with Cherenkoff and Joan Erichsen - Chair of Publicity for Things - to discuss the anniversary and the incredible longevity of the store which has meant so much to one of Winnipeg's most well-known arts institutions.

Things is open from 10 am to 4 pm from Monday - Saturday. They will be celebrating their anniversary with a customer appreciation day on Nov. 19, 2017 from 12 pm to 4 pm. They are located a 913 Corydon Ave.
